This is a list of things we discovered while trying to optimize our email marketing campaigns.
Lets start by testing the quality of the send domain.
Is it on any black lists? Does it have any DNS issues?
We like to use MX Toolbox for this.
- This is a great tool to see if your domain name is on a blacklist.
The blacklist check will test a mail server IP address against over 100 DNS based email blacklists. (Commonly called Realtime blacklist, DNSBL or RBL). If your mail server has been blacklisted, some email you send may not be delivered. Email blacklists are a common way of reducing spam.

This test will connect to a mail server via SMTP, perform a simple Open Relay Test and verify the server has a reverse DNS (PTR) record. It will also measure the response times for the mail server. If you don’t know your mail server’s address.
